# Ray and Google Sheets

> Find the sheet, read the cells, and add the row that belongs at the end.

Ray is an AI teammate that works in your team chat, on Slack today. Connect Google Sheets and it can do the Google Sheets part of a request without anyone leaving the conversation: read what it needs, draft the change, and post it for approval before anything is written. 7 reads run without asking. 2 actions wait for a human approval.

## What Ray reads in Google Sheets

Reading changes nothing, so Ray never stops to ask whether it may look something up.

- Spreadsheets you search for, and the sheets inside them
- Cell values, a single range or several at once
- A looked-up row, and aggregates over a column

## What waits for your approval

Every one of these posts an approval card in the thread showing exactly what is about to happen. Nothing runs until someone clicks approve, and no setting turns that off.

- Append a row to the end of a sheet
- Update the values in a range, with the cells on the card

## Things Ray is never handed

These are left out during curation, so they are not something Ray could do and decides against. They are not in front of it at all.

- Delete a sheet, a chart, or a row
- Insert a row or column mid-sheet, or start a new spreadsheet
- Change sheet or spreadsheet properties

## Ask it like this

- "@Ray what is the total in column D of the pipeline sheet?"

## Connecting Google Sheets

Every person on the team connects their own Google Sheets account on Google Sheets's own login screen, so Ray can only reach what that person can already reach, and the history in Google Sheets shows who actually asked. Passwords never pass through Ray. Disconnecting Google Sheets or uninstalling Ray revokes the connection.
