# Ray and Linear

> File properly written issues from a conversation, and keep their status honest.

Ray is an AI teammate that works in your team chat, on Slack today. Connect Linear and it can do the Linear part of a request without anyone leaving the conversation: read what it needs, draft the change, and post it for approval before anything is written. 12 reads run without asking. 3 actions wait for a human approval.

## What Ray reads in Linear

Reading changes nothing, so Ray never stops to ask whether it may look something up.

- Issues, projects, teams, and who is on them
- Workflow states and labels, so it uses yours rather than inventing any

## What waits for your approval

Every one of these posts an approval card in the thread showing exactly what is about to happen. Nothing runs until someone clicks approve, and no setting turns that off.

- Create an issue, with a real description and acceptance criteria
- Update status, assignee, priority, or labels
- Comment on an issue

## Things Ray is never handed

These are left out during curation, so they are not something Ray could do and decides against. They are not in front of it at all.

- Delete an issue
- Run raw API queries against your workspace

## Ask it like this

- "@Ray file that as a bug, assign it to me, and mark it urgent."
- "@Ray what is still in review for the payments project?"
- "@Ray move FLD-212 to done and let the team know."
- "@Ray post what shipped this week to #eng every Friday."

## Connecting Linear

Every person on the team connects their own Linear account on Linear's own login screen, so Ray can only reach what that person can already reach, and the history in Linear shows who actually asked. Passwords never pass through Ray. Disconnecting Linear or uninstalling Ray revokes the connection.
