# Ray and Segment

Ray is an AI teammate that works in your team chat, on Slack today. ## What Ray reads in Segment

Reading changes nothing, so Ray never stops to ask whether it may look something up.

- Event delivery metrics for a destination, and where they are failing
- Daily API calls per source, so a spike or a silence shows up
- A destination's full configuration and a source's schema settings
- Which warehouses a source feeds

## What Ray writes

Ray reads Segment and answers from it in the thread. Writing to Segment is not switched on yet, so there is nothing to approve.

## Things Ray is never handed

These are left out during curation, so they are not something Ray could do and decides against. They are not in front of it at all.

- Send events, identify users, or import history, which would put invented data in your pipeline
- Create, edit or delete a source, or revoke a write key

## Connecting Segment

Segment has no per-person login, so it connects once with a single workspace key and covers the whole team. Ray reaches whatever that key reaches, and every write still stops for approval first. The key is pasted on Ray's own connect page, never in chat, and it never reaches the model. Disconnecting Segment or uninstalling Ray revokes the connection.
