Work gets decided in chat. Then it disappears.
Someone describes a bug, someone agrees to own it, and the thread scrolls away. Then a person has to remember to file it, chase it and report back, and usually nobody does. We built Ray to be the teammate who does.
What we got wrong the first time
Before Ray there was Recal. A few hundred teams used it and it was genuinely useful, but it could not do the one thing everybody kept asking for. Somebody would describe a problem in chat and expect the work to end up filed, assigned and moving. It never did.
It could answer a question. It could not carry a task. Those turn out to be two entirely different products, and the second one is what people were actually asking for.
So Ray is built to finish things. It follows the thread, works in the tools your team already pays for, and comes back to tell you what happened. When something looks consequential it stops and asks you first.
Autonomy you can watch
An assistant that only answers is safe and not very useful. One that acts on its own is useful and, without a way to see what it did, hard to trust with anything that matters.
So Ray does the work, and everything that reaches outside your chat stops and waits for your click. You read the exact email before it sends and the exact ticket before it is filed. That is the whole trade, and it is why teams let it near real work.
What changes
- What gets decided in a thread stops getting lost.
- Nobody has to be the person who asks twice.
- Nothing sensitive happens without someone saying yes.
Four things we will not do
Every one of these is easier to sell without. We are writing them down so you can hold us to them.
- No dashboard to check
- Ray works where your team already talks. A tool that needs its own tab is another place to fall behind, and we are not adding one to your day.
- No usage meter
- One flat price for your team's size. Using Ray more never costs more, so nobody on your team has to think about whether a question is worth asking.
- No off switch on approvals
- Every action that reaches outside chat waits for a person. This is how Ray is built rather than a setting it ships with, so no admin, no plan and no clever prompt can turn it off.
- No selling what we see
- Your messages train nothing and go to no advertiser. Ray reads your workspace to do your work, and that is the only reason it reads it.
