What Ray asks for, and why
You are about to give an AI access to a workspace. Here is the whole list, in plain English, before you see the consent screen.
Read the conversations you invite it to
Ray sees a channel only after someone adds it. It cannot read anything else in your workspace.
- Hear you when you mention it
- Follow the thread it is working in, so follow-ups make sense
- Find what your team said in those channels when you ask, without keeping the words
- Answer in a DM when you would rather not fill a channel

Reply, and ask before anything it can’t undo
Everything Ray sends is attributed to Ray. It never posts as you or as anyone else.
- Reply in thread with an Undo on what it changed, and post the approval card you click to authorize anything it can’t undo
- Open a DM with a teammate when you schedule a reminder or a recap for them
- Acknowledge with a single reaction when a reply would just be noise
- Show you what it is working on while it works, and offer a few openers in an empty DM

Look at a file when you point it at one
Ray opens a file only when someone asks about it. Nothing is read in the background, and the file itself is never stored.
- Read the screenshot or the deck you shared, when you ask about it
- Watch a short video or listen to a clip and report back what it shows
- Never browse files on its own. Every look is a deliberate step

Find its way around
Enough to act on what you said without asking you to paste an ID.
- Know who is speaking, so “assign it to me” reaches the right person
- Turn “post it in #product” into the actual channel
- Join a public channel when you ask it to, never on its own
- Show each person only what they can already see in Slack when it searches
- Say which company will see a post before it goes into a channel you share with one
- See someone’s scheduled Do Not Disturb, so a follow-up waits until they are back

Make what you ask for
Ray adds a file, a canvas, a bookmark, a pin, a list item or a channel for a coding task only when someone asks for it.
- Create and share files it made, like a chart or a spreadsheet, and never touch yours
- Write a channel canvas when your team asks for a living document, and read one you point it to
- Add a bookmark to the channel bar when you ask, and see the ones already there
- Pin a message when you ask it to
- Add items to a Slack list when you ask, and read the list it is adding to
- Open a channel for a coding task when you ask it to build something, with the people from your thread, and archive it when the work is done

Read your own email address, once, at install
Slack words this as every address in your workspace and offers no narrower permission. Ray uses it once, as the person installing, to read your own address, then gives it back.
- Send you, the installer, the list of companies that process your workspace’s data, and notice before it changes
- Never read anyone else’s address: Ray’s own access to your workspace carries no email permission at all

Respond to /ray and reactions
Ray acts on these only when a person starts them: a command, a shortcut, a check mark on a follow-up.

What Ray never asks for
Each of these is a permission Ray could have requested and deliberately does not.

What happens after you click
There is nothing to migrate and nothing to configure. Most teams are running a real task inside five minutes.

Approve it in Slack
Slack shows you the permissions below and asks you to confirm. If your workspace requires an owner to approve new apps, Slack sends them the request instead.

Invite Ray to one channel
Type /invite @Ray where your team already works. Ray sees that channel and nothing else, so you can start somewhere low stakes.

Give it something real
Mention it with an actual task. “@Ray file that as a bug in Linear.” It will connect the tool with one click, file the ticket, and put an Undo on its reply.
Ray is an AI teammate, so it can get things wrong.
That is the whole reason it works this way. No irreversible action without your yes, and there is no setting that turns that off.
- You approve what can’t be undone
- Before Ray sends, pays, or deletes anything for good, it posts a card showing exactly what it is about to do, and waits. Everyday changes happen at once, with an Undo anyone on the team can press.
- You control what it remembers
- Ask it to forget one thing, switch memory off, or purge all of it. The purge asks the team for approval first.
- You can take it all back
- Uninstalling stops Ray immediately, revokes every connected tool, and deletes your data after 14 days.
